I Finished the Nine Lies Series

You may have noticed that I’d been back in America for two full years before adding a single post to let you know that I had moved. That’s for two main reasons - first, I wanted to spend time with my family. (I hadn’t seen them in nine years.) Second, I’ve been getting a lot done.

I wrote four and a half books in seven months

Once I hunkered down and got back into writing in May of 2023, I finished Nine Lies Book 5: Shadows. I was on such a roll that I just kept going and wrote Nine Lies Book 6: Lies in almost one fell swoop.

I set a goal to write 5,000 words a day, which meant 25,000 words a week, and 100K (about one book) a month. Some days I was on such a roll that I wrote over 12,000 words in a single day. I had a few interruptions due to family events, but for the most part, I kept working, and I finished the rough drafts of the whole Nine Lies Series by November of 2023.

Editing

Now Books 5 through 9 are in revisions, and I’m happy to announce that I have already finished the first pass on all of them.

Editing is a daunting task and it’s difficult sometimes to switch gears from creating into revision mode, so I always give myself permission to spend the first pass just reading my drafts and making notes on things that don’t work, need to be checked out, or need to be rewritten or removed. If I want to go ahead and do the edits because I’m feeling overconfident, I can, but I don’t put pressure on myself to do that at the start.

Once the first pass is done I am usually more acclimated to editing mode and I am more comfortable taking action in the next round. Unfortunately, I have not begun the second round of edits for the Nine Lies Series quite yet, though, because I have a major deadline on another project I’ve been working on.

If you want to read more about that, check out the next post.

But once that project’s done, I intend to get back to editing. I would love to publish all of the remaining books in Felix’s saga by the end of 2024, but the world is volatile these days and I won’t make any promises. But thanks for bearing with me despite the long hiatus between Books 4 and 5. I know Vengeance wasn’t the easiest book to read or the kindest book to take a break right after, so thanks for sticking with me.
